Dental veneers are custom-made shells that are attached to the front of the teeth. They don’t just cover up imperfections; they create a perfect smile. Veneers are made of ceramic or porcelain and can change the colour of your teeth.
Dental veneers can cover up imperfections such as cracks, stains, chips, gaps between the teeth and more. Dental veneers are made of either porcelain or ceramics. Porcelain is a more natural looking material, although both porcelain and ceramic look very natural and are nearly impossible to distinguish from the real thing. For your dental veneers to stay in place, they will need to be bonded to a tooth. Your dentist will give you a local anaesthetic to numb the site of placement where the veneers will be placed.
Before the treatment, there are a few options for teeth to receive dental veneers. One option is a temporary restoration that lasts about 2 years. Another option is to have porcelain veneers that can last up to 15 years, but these may be more expensive. Porcelain veneers require 4 visits over an 8-week period. If someone has their teeth cut down and filed down after the porcelain veneers are put on, they can last if 20 years or more. Finally, if someone wants ceramic restorations or porcelain ceramic restorations, it can take up to 3 appointments and 25 days of wearing an acrylic bite wing prior to getting them cemented in place on the teeth. There are also some potential problems that people can experience after getting their veneers. For example, if someone has an allergy to the material used for the veneers, they may need to be replaced. Another issue that can happen is a hard fit because of a worn-out bite wing or teeth that have receded.
Dental veneers procedure:
The dentist will remove the enamel from the teeth that are about to receive dental veneers using a drill, so that a space is prepared for the dental veneers. They then place porcelain or ceramic veneers on top of this space so that it looks like perfect upper and lower teeth. The dentist will then put on cement to make sure that the dental veneer is securely in place. Once the cement has dried, the patient may experience minor discomfort for about a day. There is usually no blood or bleeding from the teeth during this time. After that, patients must wear an acrylic bite wing for about 25 days to keep their smile healthy and gorgeous. They must visit the dentist once a month and get the bite wing adjusted. Patients must attend an appointment every six months for at least two years to make sure that their veneers are holding up well and that their bite is staying in place. Dental veneers should not be used for medical by patients who need tooth implants or dentures because of dental veneers being more expensive than those with other options.
During the treatment, come in twice a year for the first 2 years and have your teeth veneered by the same dentist that will do your dental veneers. If you live out of town, make an appointment to meet with your dentist at a local clinic so you can see how your veneers are healing.
After dental veneers are put on, they can easily fall off if someone bites into something tough. If this has happened to someone, they must get veneers fixed or take them off right away, and never leave the house with their veneers off. If a dental veneer is not held in place well enough, it can come off with a lot of wear and tear. It is very important that patients make sure that the dentist uses dental cement correctly so that veneers will stay in place for as long as possible.
After dental veneers:
After veneers have been applied, many people may experience sensitivity to temperature and/or touch just like what happens when wearing braces. Sensitivity usually diminishes over time as the gums shrink back to normal size.
To remove the veneers, a temporary filling is placed on each tooth. These temporary fillings allow the gums to shrink to their original size again and they are removed after just one or two more appointments of the dental veneer’s treatment process.
